Representative Al Green (D-Texas) was escorted out of the House chamber during President Donald Trump's State of the Union address on February 24, 2026, after holding up a sign that read “BLACK PEOPLE AREN’T APES!”. 

• The Protest: As President Trump entered the chamber, Rep. Green stood and displayed the handwritten sign in direct view of the President, protesting a social media video reposted by Trump earlier in February that depicted Barack and Michelle Obama as apes.
• The Reaction: Sergeant at Arms personnel removed Green from the chamber within two minutes of the speech starting. During the removal, Green waved the sign at the Republican side of the aisle, where Rep. Troy Nehls allegedly tried to snatch it.
